Long recognized as a national leader in aquatics, the YMCA has something for everyone. From swim lessons to recreational swim to aquatic fitness, YMCA aquatic programs develop the whole person, physically, mentally and spiritually, while providing an excellent opportunity for youth and adults to make new friends, and, most importantly, to have fun.
Parent/Child and Preschool Swim Instruction:
Swim lessons at the YMCA are available for children ages 6 months and older. We offer a progressive swim program where each child moves to more advanced skill levels at his/her own pace and we encourage parental participation.
Youth Swim Lessons:
Swim lessons at the YMCA are available for youth ages six years and older. Skill levels are carefully designed to give each child the opportunity to advance in five areas: personal safety, stroke development, personal growth, water sports and water rescue. The YMCA's new "stroke clinics" focus on a specific swim stroke each week and help to develop the necessary skills for competitive swimming.
Adult Swim Instruction:
Small class sizes are designed for individuals who cannot swim and/or who are fearful of the water. Water familiarization and basic swim techniques are the components of adult swim instruction.
Recreational Swim:
Recreational swim is available for youth, teens and families who wish to participate in non-lap swim activities, as well as to relax and enjoy the pool.
Aquatic Fitness:
A low-impact, energizing workout using aqua bells, balls and foam “noodles†is a great way to improve muscle tone and increase endurance, strength and flexibility. With Aqua Fitness, men and women of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy all the benefits of low impact aerobic exercise. Working out in the water is a great way to gain cardiovascular stamina.
Lap Swim:
Lap swimming is a great cardiovascular workout and one with measurable results. The YMCA offers over 30 hours of lap swimming each week at a variety of times each day. Daily schedules include early morning, lunch time and evening lap swim times.
Masters Swim:
For those adults looking for more challenge in the water, the Masters Swim Program incorporates stroke development, tips, and teamwork into a fast-paced workout. Healthy competition will be encourage among participants.
Special Populations:
The Pawtucket Family YMCA pool is now handicap accessible, making it possible to offer programs to all people interested in pursuing an active experience in the pool.
Consult the program catalog and pool facility schedule for specific times and dates of aquatic programming.
